Sachsenhausen
The camp was established in 1936. It was located 35 kilometres north of Berlin, which gave it a primary position among the German concentration camps: the administrative centre of all concentration camps was located in Oranienburg, and Sachsenhausen became a training centre for officers . Initially, the camp was used to perfect the most efficient and effective execution method for use in the death camps. Given that, executions obviously took place at Sachsenhausen, especially of Soviet prisoners of war.
by September 1941, when they conducted the experiments in Auschwitz, Sachsenhausen was already the scene of "killing in combination with the development of efficient gas vans"
The prisoners were also used as a workforce, with a large task force of prisoners from the camp sent to work in the nearby brickworks to meet Albert Speer's vision of rebuilding Berlin.

Engineer Oscar Groff
Oscar was the secretary and deputy head of the Ashkenazi community in Sarajevo.
He was a member of the Spanish association "Esperanza". He was on the curate team of the secondary theological seminary of Association of Communities. Son of Ludwig Groff. Bela (Gideon) Groff's uncle.

My beloved girl!
I received your postcard of April 17th. I'm glad you're healthy, but I'm very worried about Mom and Yehudith, because from their last message, from the first of March, I understood that they are sick. Find out through the cultural communities (.........) if they are healthy and how they feel. Please write to me about it in the next postcard. Get in touch with the aunts (list of names), they will be very accommodating.
Keep up the good behavior. Study hard, so you can move up a grade next year. Always listen to your aunt and uncle, whom I congratulate with many thanks. Thank God I am healthy. When I receive good news from you, from mother and Yehudith, then I am happy and satisfied. I think of you and miss you very much. hope to see you again hugs and kisses you Your dad.
