World War II - Trieste

Italy fought with Nazi Germany as an Axis power in World War II from 1940. When the Fascist regime collapsed in 1943 and Italy capitulated, the territory was occupied by German forces who created the Operational Zone of the Adriatic Littoral, the capital of which was Trieste. The Yugoslav 4th Army and the Slovenian 9th Corps entered Trieste on 1 May 1945, after a battle in the town of Opicina. The 2nd Division (New Zealand) arrived the next day and forced the surrender of the 2,000 German Army troops holding out in Trieste, who warily had refused to capitulate to Yugoslav troops, fearing they would be executed by them.

Aunt Luzzi

Trieste, Italy Third postcard -14.04.1943

Three postcards, written in German, addressed to Mr. Liga Heinrich. Podravska Slatina, Croatia Sent by Aunt Luzzi.

I am shocked by what you inform me. I don't know if you were offended, or if things are so urgent.

Your postcard was sent after the date 03.04

Oscar wrote to me, a few days ago, that you (referring to the Heinrich League) and also Eda, have other demands.

Be that as it may, I have taken care of the things I have to do and I hope it will work out, even if it will be difficult. I am waiting in Trieste for an immediate reply from you. I wish you and your wife a happy Passover. Greetings, kisses and warm greetings to Eda.
